Video Killed the Content Slump: Our 7-Day Turnaround
[ 3:30 min read ] See the strategy, stats, and takeaways that made our content pop
As a member of Gen-Z, my literal dream is making my favorite past time (TikTok) a vital part of my job description.
For one, that would mean part of my job is watching TikTok. But, more importantly, I have watched trends of viral content explode in real time and I know - first hand - how paramount online visibility is to growing businesses.
In my 21 years of life I’ve spent more hours on TikTok than I’d like to admit—but last week, that obsession finally paid off. The result? Engagement up, reach up, vibes immaculate.
Here’s how we pulled off a 7-day glow-up—and why your brand might need one too.
In 2025, video isn’t just a trend—it’s the internet’s native language. With attention spans shrinking and feeds getting faster, video content cuts through the noise like nothing else.
Recent studies show that video posts generate up to 1200% more shares than text and image content combined. Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video, compared to just 10% when reading it in text. That’s not just engagement—that’s impact.
Platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and even LinkedIn are all-in on video. Their algorithms prioritize it, reward it, and push it to the top of feeds. For creators and brands, that means more reach, more interaction, and more opportunities to connect authentically.
In short: if you’re not using video, you’re not showing up where it counts.
What We Did
After making a TikTok Account (Follow us on TikTok), it started by identifying trends.
A TikTok trend is a repeatable content format that spreads quickly across the platform—usually driven by a specific sound, visual style, challenge, or editing technique. Think of it like a meme, but in motion.
- Trends often start with one viral video and then get reinterpreted by thousands of creators in their own way. The beauty is in the remix: same sound or structure, but personalized to your niche, brand, or audience
I followed and interacted with creators who identify these trends for their followers as they are popping off. My absolute favorite being Media A La Carte NYC. When you interact and engage with a certain type of content, it tells the algorithm that that is what you want to see; therefore, I built a ForYouPage filled with trend identification. All I have to do past that point is pick trends that work with our business, film content, and post!
No Fancy Gear, No Problem
Let’s clear this up: you don’t need a DSLR, ring light, or studio setup to make content that performs. I shoot everything on my iPhone and edit directly in the TikTok app. If I’m feeling extra (or need to trim something more precisely), I’ll use iMovie. That’s it. The key is speed, relatability, and hopping on trends while they’re still fresh.
Our First Video
Our first TikTok was simple: a quick behind-the-scenes clip of the gallery and text asking artists to share their commission horror stories. 700 views in less than an hour.
Cross-Posting = Low-Effort, High-Reward
One of the easiest wins? Cross-posting. We took that same TikTok and uploaded it as an Instagram Reel. No extra editing, no tweaks—just a new caption and a few hashtags. It performed almost identically on both platforms. If you’re not repurposing your TikToks as Reels (and even YouTube Shorts), you’re leaving reach on the table.
The Proof is in the Pudding
Using instagram insights, I can see that in the past seven days of video content, we have increased our accounts reached by 7,350%. 92% of that was due to video content. The amount of visits to our profile increased by 275%.
Moreover, the majority of the accounts we reached were not followers; showing that our online visibility skyrocketed.
Your Turn to Hit Record
This past week proved what I’ve always suspected: video isn’t just the future of content—it’s the now. With nothing but my iPhone, a few trending sounds, and a little strategy, we turned casual scrolls into real results.
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start posting video content—this is it. You don’t need fancy gear or a full production team. You just need to start. Watch trends, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to hit post before it’s perfect.
Try it for a week. Track your insights. Then come back and tell me how it went.
Let’s grow together—one scroll-stopping video at a time.
(psst… while writing this post I made a TikTok that has reached nearly 200 people in 10 minutes.)
